I'm new at this fight, but all fired up. It was my 7 yr old son that got me started. He stood up to his teacher and refused to take the assessment test earlier this year because it was unfair. Each week as the homework became more and more abstract, and he struggled more, I knew I had to act. I've written all the politicians in NYS. I've written the superintendent and the principal. My son's teacher says he needs a 504 because he's just too slow to do the work, but his reports card shows his current academics at a 3rd, 4th and 5th grade level - he's in 2nd grade. I told his teacher it's the method of teaching that is the problem, NOT MY KID! We started teaching him math the "old fashioned" way and he's picking it up in a matter of minutes, without struggle or tears. Common Core was designed for one thing - to tear down our kids and destroy our education system. Not on my watch!

In S.Carolina-Teachers and principals work against us. It is their job to uphold Common Core. We hand out pamphlets just off school property in the car pick-up line, & hold signs there for upcoming meetings to learn more on Commie Core.
Our county school board has members are waiting to see if our legislators will get rid of it. We have S.300, and working on our Senators to get more co-sponsors bill. http://www.scstatehouse.gov/sess120_2013-2014/bills/300.htm
MORE ABOUT COMMON CORE and MONEY DEALS at expense of our children: Gates Foundation Grants to push Common Core! http://www.gatesfoundation.org/search#q/k=common%20core%20grants
The National Conference of State Legislators-Nov.1, 2013 got $557,046 from Gates. There was $100 BILLION in education stimulus money in '09. Sad to think of how that much money was WASTED.

@bob in rye they already had sufficient testing in place. I wasnt sure of the problems with common core either until I had attended a presentation by Yvonne. It was very eye opening, please if not for you but for your kids read up on the information and see the facts that are on this website.

Does anyone have a resolution for NY'ers against the common core?

This Common Core has got to go!! I am the mother of two children, one in 6th grade and one in 2nd. My 6th grader is adapting well to the new standards, BUT that is because she had 5 years of Basic math to prepare for this. My 2nd grader is defeated every night. The work she is coming home with is things that 7 year olds have not even learned yet!!! I myself had to use Google to help her. It is heartbreaking to see her so frustrated and there is nothing I can do to help her. She has these "assessment" speed tests every week and if she can answer 5 of the 50 that is alot, most of the time they are wrong. We need to have this stopped. It is going to ruin our children.

I think the parents in NYS should organize a “keep your child home from school day” to make a very serious statement to the Governor that the state needs to discontinue Common Core in schools and go back to the original way of teaching our children. I would definitely keep my kids home that day. I have 2nd and 4th graders and when they should be advancing it seems they have only stepped back. It just makes no sense at all.

Hi - anti-CSCOPE folks down here in TX posted an excerpt of a CC-aligned text from an AZ school, a text that also appears on Nyack NY 2013 Summer reading list for Grades 6-12. "Dreaming in Cuban". In case my links don't post - check the Voices Empower website and google for Nyack Public Schools Grades 6-12 Summer Reading 2013.
